Spicy Gingerbread Nuts š
These spicy gingerbread nuts are the perfect warm, and cozy treat for the festive Sinterklaas season, that time of year when Dutch homes smell like cinnamon, spice, and everything nice. But this version comes with a spicy twist and is ready under 30 minutes, they combine the nostalgic flavour of traditional pepernoten with the bold, savory kick of our Crispy Chilli Oil.

Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 3ā4 people (or keep them all to yourself, Sinterklaas wonāt tell)
Ingredients
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 75g unsalted butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp gingerbread spices
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp semi-skimmed milk
- 2.5 tbsp chilli crisp (from our Crispy Chilli Oil),Ā include some of the crunchy bits
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 160°C.
- In a bowl, add the self-rising flour, softened butter, brown sugar, gingerbread spices, and salt.
- Knead everything together until a dough begins to form.
- Slowly add the milkĀ 1 tbsp at a time, kneading between each addition until the dough is smooth and fully combined.
- Once your dough is ready, add in theĀ chilli crisp, making sure to include a little bit of the oil for flavor. Knead gently until evenly distributed.
- Roll the dough intoĀ one big ball, then divide it into four equal sections.
- Take each section and roll it out into a long log ā about as thick as your thumb.
- Cut the log intoĀ 1 cm pieces, then roll each piece into a small ball.
- Place them evenly on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
- Bake forĀ 15ā18 minutes, until lightly golden and fragrant.
- Let them cool for at leastĀ 15 minutes so they crisp up properly.
